Denver, CO/Philadelphia, PA – February 24, 2010 – Following its successful theatrical release in the United States and Canada, Race Across the Sky will debut on Blu-ray and DVD in March. The independently-produced documentary chronicles the August 2009 Leadville Trail 100 mountain bike race in Leadville, CO, and features such cycling VIPs as Lance Armstrong and six-time race winner David Wiens.
The race was captured in high definition by Citizen Pictures’ CEO and director, Frank Matson, and showcases the action, emotion and beauty of this grueling competition. To bring the stunning visuals and captivating story to home audiences, Citizen Pictures chose Cubist Media Group, a leader in Blu-ray and DVD development, to develop both the Blu-ray Disc and DVD.
“Cubist has the knowledge, tools and experience to be a valuable authoring and replication partner,” noted Dustin Astrom, CFO of Citizen Pictures. “We’re excited to be able to share the Leadville experience with the home audience and the Cubist Blu-ray team was crucial to developing a disc that’s a close second place to being there on race day.”
“With each Blu-ray project, our goal is to show every bit of the content at its best,” said Cubist’s Director of Business Development Roger Baker. “The AVC, 1080i video encode on this disc retains every bit of the clarity and detail of the film, which only serves to heighten the excitement you feel as a viewer. Our menu design team has done a stunning job as well, creating a clean and economic menu design which keeps the viewer’s attention focused on the film, not on navigation.”
The Blu-ray Disc and DVD have the 75-minute feature film and a 25-minute pre- and post-screening panel discussion featuring LT100 race founder Ken Chlouber, Armstrong, Wiens, Travis Brown and Matt Shriver held at the film’s premiere in Durango,CO. Both 5.1 Dolby Surround and stereo audio tracks are included, as well as English SDH captioning for the hearing impaired. Exclusive to the Blu-ray Disc, an additional 47-minute bonus video shows every triumphant racer to cross the finish line.
Strong interest in the home video market is anticipated. Popular and critical response to the film has been overwhelmingly positive, with both audiences and critics alike noting that the film tells a dramatic story of endurance and perseverance that transcends the sport and
broadens the appeal of the film to an audience greater than just cycling or sport enthusiasts.
